Stainless Exhaust System
To handle the exhaust needs for the coupe, Mark decided on an all stainless steel system. Mandrel bent 304 SS bends and straight sections from Classic Tube were chosen. The necessary bends and required straight sections were based on the original abs mockup.

Since new products are now available then when Mark first mocked up the exhaust basing it on one of Flowmasters 50 series mufflers he decided to incorporate two of Flowmasters new all stainless Hushpower IIä mufflers. Their slim design and size allows for packaging in tight places in addition to the all-stainless construction. Another nice feature is the Cool Shell Technologyä .

Wanting a modular system that could be removed if there was a servicing need, Mark contacted Pi-Thon Design Inc. about their all stainless steel FireLockä exhaust clamps. The fit and finish on these components is outstanding.

The down-pipes were cut and tack welded together from the Classic Tube components. The flanges and oxygen sensor bungs were also added. Several fit checks were performed before final welding and sanding smooth.

The Pi-Thon Design Inc. FireLockä clamps were used at both ends of the crossover. A hanger will be added to the crossover after the body is removed (easier access).

Stainless hangers were welded to the rear of the Flowmasters Hushpower IIä mufflers. Weld nuts were added to the frame as attach points for the hangers. Two more of the Pi-Thon Design Inc. FireLockä clamps secure the tailpipes to the mufflers.

The tailpipes were built in the same sequence as the front pipes from the Classic Tube components. The one on the right has been tacked together; the left one has been finish welded, ground smooth and sanded. The rear hangers were also tacked on with the tailpipes in position on the car.

Mark designed and machined the aluminum brackets to attach the tailpipes to the frame and rear-end, he even added an engraved V8 to the rear-end bracket. The picture shows the installed tailpipes prior to adding the tips.
