The brake package is one of those areas affected by other design choices you make regarding your vehicle. In Mark’s case, he chose to run 16" wheels for a more vintage look. This limited rotor and caliper options. After checking clearances and some research Mark elected to use 12" C4 Corvette rotors and 2 piston calipers. To improve looks and performance Mark used Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation's Short Stop Upgrade Kit consisting of Turbo-Slotted Rotors and Hi-Performance brake pads. If 17" or larger wheels are part of your plan, Stainless Steel Brakes offers several other bolt-on caliper and rotor packages.
On the rear, limited clearance with the frame rails and trailing arms would not allow use of the Corvette rear calipers with the integrated emergency brake. Mark’s solution was to use the 2 piston front calipers on all four corners for a matched look. Since the drive shaft is fixed on the IRS, a rotor and billet emergency brake caliper from Stainless Steel Brakes will be added (We’ll show this in a future update). To mount the calipers to the C3 Corvette rear end Mark designed and machined his own aluminum brackets.
The position chosen allows for good access for brake bleeding and brake hose routing.
