Speakers
Mark wanted the sound system to rival any imported luxury vehicles. After listening to several manufacturers speakers and component systems, Mark chose the Kappa Series from InfinityÒ . The Kappa 60.3cs, 6 ½" 2-way component system was selected for the front and the Kappa 692.3i, 6 X 9" 2-way for the rear. Several adapters and mounts are included to give you installation options. Many packages and combinations are available from InfinityÒ to fit your needs.

The front kick panels were made from 1/8" plywood. The bumped out area on the passenger side panel was needed to clear the wiper drive. It was glued together using chipboard (heavy poster board) and yellow carpenters glue, then sanded smooth. Some ½" furniture grade plywood was cut and glued to the panel for speaker mounting and stiffening, (the more solid your speaker mounting is, the better the sound quality). Blind nuts were pressed in for woofer attachment and only a hole was needed for tweeter mounting. Two flat head screws were epoxied into the panel for attaching the crossovers. The front panels were then pre-wired as a sub-assembly.

The rear panels were made in the same fashion except Velcro strips were used to attach the crossovers to the panel, (Heres a tip: If you have trouble getting Velcro or double sided tape adhering to porous surfaces like wood or chipboard, try brushing a coat of contact cement on it first and letting it dry. Then apply the tape or Velcro, make sure you like the position because once they touch youre not changing it).

The rear 6 X 9s from InfinityÒ feature a patented UniPivotä tweeter for adjustability. It allows fine-tuning of the output direction of the tweeters. To bench test the sound system temporary wires were connected to each panel. Even without insulation or upholstery Marks reaction was: WOW! The sound quality and imaging is fantastic, better than he had anticipated.
